我的首次策展處女作: <無有存貨 In Stock>國際金工游擊展

<無有存貨 In Stock>國際金工游擊展是由荷蘭In Stock團隊Ineke Heerkens、Jantje Fleischhut、和Jeannette Jansen, 和於2009年發起的展覽，這是個國際金工設計作品的游擊展店(pop-up store)，以「金工五金行」型式，與各大城市的設計週連結，在世界各個城市角落出現，至今已在阿姆斯特丹以及慕尼黑展過三次，進入亞洲的第一站特別選擇來到台北，於2010年9月3日至9月12日台灣設計師週期間，以會外展方式於加工廠FABRIK和大家見面，展出來自歐洲六十多位與台灣中國區十二位設計師的獨特創意，荷蘭策展人之一設計師Jeannette Jansen以及台灣區的兩個策展人陳郁君以及謝旻玲屆時也將親自出席講座與參與相關活動。

這個國際金工游擊展最獨特有趣的是，它展覽型式做成仿五金工具店的空間配置，作品展示於常見的透明塑膠包裝盒中，排列吊掛在多孔纖維板上，標價牌、目錄、收銀台缺一不可，讓參觀者走進這個親切的「金工五金行」，能近距離的觀賞及購買作品，完全突破一般展覽，尤其是金工作品展示，給人不可親近碰觸的印象。不僅展品們是一連串的創意驚呼，連展場本身更是策展人概念下獨特的裝置作品。參展者中有許多歐洲大師的作品，再加上台灣年輕一輩的創作，材質包括金屬、陶瓷、玻璃、塑膠、紙、皮、回收材質等等超乎想像的運用方式，而形式與創意更是天馬行空，概念無奇不有，絕對是一場不能錯過精彩的設計派對。

當藝術家們創作獨一無二的作品(one-off)，但因其獨特性讓普羅大眾多只能停留在欣賞的階段而難以擁有；另一方面，當全球走向商業化的大量製造的潮流中，人們開始意識到創意與美學是未來特出的力量；此次展覽精神希望在這兩個小眾與大眾的極端中建構橋樑，策展的出發點是想跳脫一般人傳統對金工珠寶作品不可親的印象，邀請國際優秀金工創作者用自己的原創精神創作五件限量作品(multiples), 七十多位創作者超過三百五十多件作品，作品的多元呈現可見一斑，一方面希望將創意生活化以帶進人們的生活，另一方面意圖呈現金工創作的多樣面貌，跨界到更廣泛的設計、藝術領域，並藉由與國際交流將台灣設計與世界接軌。

除了展覽之外，荷蘭設計師Jeannette Jansen也將來台，於9月5日星期日上午11:00開始的台灣設計師週講座中，與大家分享歐洲當代金工和這個展覽的精神，以及In Stock團隊的策展經驗，展覽期間也將安排更多相關活動，有興趣者請密切注意。

At the Designhuis in Eindhoven, there is the exhibition "Design Bazaar- the best of Dutch design" until the end of February. There is a wide range of design discipline including jewellery, bags, chair, vase, lights, shoes, textile, etc.

In the Jewellery section, curator Chequitar Nahar collaborates with several Dutch galleries to show a big selection of rings. My rings are also shown there. If you have time, please come by!!

Ugly Objects

Op Voorraad _ jewellery pop-up store

"Op Voorraad" will be open again in December at the Red Light Design in Amsterdam.
(read about the previous show in Munich)
For this jewellery pop-up store, numerous designers were asked to design and produce a limited edition of five pieces. The original works are made from a variety of materials ranging from gold, glass and plastic to rope, ceramics, wax and leather.

With the update of the "Ugly Objects" project (click for more detail), I am going to hit the road!

The object (the dotted tie) is going to hit the road with me on the trekking journey in the Indian Himalaya area for 2 months.
The plan is to let the object transform organically during the trip along with the people I encounter and the places I experience.
I do not know what to expect from the trip and try to stay open with what's coming in my way, so as the dotted tie.

I was last weekend in London to visit Collect2009: The International Art Fair for Contemporary Objects re-launches in the new venue - the Saatchi Gallery, London.

Gallery Marzee was representing some of my work at the venue.

It was really emotional to see my work at this world renown contemporary art gallery.

I hope this is building a deeper bound between the world of contemporary art and contemporary objects/applied arts and thus bring more light into the field where we are working with!

Alchemic Experience workshop and exhibition at Shenkar College of Engineering and Design, Isreal.

Exhibition 98 pieces of contemporary jewellery, 25 artists, 13 different nationalities all linked by their involvement with Alchimia jewellery school in Florence, Italy are on display in this exhibition. Teachers and students alike offer a complex vision on what jewellery can be and mean today. 荷蘭藝術家Annelies Planteydt從我開始接觸創作時就一直是我的模範之一
沒想到竟然被她選中可以一起和她在維也納展出
緊張與興奮可想而知
但可惜上個月騎腳踏車不小心跌倒摔斷了左手小指骨
手上了石膏做什麼都不方便
但還是要全力以赴
希望還是能展出一些好作品,會有好的成績

Dutch Artist Annelies Planteydt has been one of my role model since I started working with jewellery. It's such a great pleasure being invited by her to show together at Galerie Slavik! I am so excited and nervous at the same time.
But with the bike accident a month ago, my left hand is set in plaster...Work progress has to slow down...quite slow...then I realise how important the hand is for us jeweller!! But the only thing I can do is to give my best with the broken hand. Hopefully the effort and tears will pay back!

Works of Alchimia's teachers and students will be presented in the exhibition organized by the Gesellschaft für Goldschmiedekunst (Association for Goldsmith Art) on the occasion of the school's 10th anniversary.

A great number of people, teachers, and students has collaborated with Alchimia over these ten years, sharing experience, knowledge, energy, a desire to learn together with solid enthusiasm. This exhibition, together with the book published for this occasion, want to be a tribute to their generosity and commitment.

金工學校Alchimia今年慶祝立校十週年, 回想當年當第一屆學生時, 學校還在草創階段, 一切都有實驗的精神, 我們這些幸運的學生就在校長老師们近乎是貼身的教導下, 從現代金工菜鳥(不論是知識上或是技巧上)一直帶到可以參加展覽, 中間的過程真的是有笑有淚.

最記得是學校那個小小的圖書休息室, 一張桌上卻放滿各式酒品, 下午四五點(有時更早)就是開喝的時間, 你就會聽到那角落傳出來陣陣的狂笑嘻語, 稍微走近就看到從裡面飄散出來的煙, 就好像是十七世紀的沙龍一般, 咖啡酒精與香煙帶出有關生活,藝術, 與創作等話題, 世界各地來的學生就在這小小的角落交換著文化與想法.

在翡冷翠的五年之間, 我跟著學校的成長, 由學生變成了老師, 到現在的自由創作者, 學校也在苦心經營下在國際有了一定的名聲, 十年後回頭來看, 當初兩位校長立下的願景似乎是真的達到了階段性的目標, 提醒我自己立定目標的重要性 and don't stop dreaming!

這次在哈瑙德國金工博物館的Alchimia 十年回顧展, 可以看到這許多年來的學生和與學校合作過的教授们的作品, 並會發行一本書, 等收到再和大家分享!!

Exhibition

Each school/program is offered a space to build a stage on which to set up and
demonstrate their various definitions, concepts, convictions, passions, and dreams of, on,
and about jewelry. Rather than presenting a portrait of a particular program or school, the
purpose will be to give expression to a certain position in relation to jewelry, to give jewelry
a face, as it were.
The contrasting and perhaps contradictory presentations should provoke and encourage
discussions and give substance to the concept of the exhibition.

Symposium

The exhibition and the symposium offer unique possibilities for international exchange, and will furthermore bring together a broad range of contemporary art jewelry, jewelry that finds its origins in artistically oriented schools. Both for the general audience and for the invited guests, coming from various continents and bringing diverse cultural backgrounds, the event will offer a lively landscape of work in which the history and the present realities of Italy in general, and of Florence in particular, will be connected. The participating schools, either academies or universities of applied arts, represent the highest level of education in the field today. Both the exhibition and the symposium aim at informing the general public, giving insight into this multi-faceted and fascinating artistic field, so that attendants will continue to follow and observe the genre of contemporary art jewelry also after the event.

As the term 'Handarbeit' evokes the image of knitting ladies or men doing woodwork, we integrated 'do-it-yourself' instructables and step-by-step instructions into this years presentation.Personal notes, drawings, ideas and sketches from 8 individual makers accompany the original work – 8 different necklaces. The idea of making 'Inmpress' was born together with the 'Handarbeit Nord' exhibition. It's about showing one necklace and sharing with people how to make it. By encouraging people to copy and use the idea, I'd like to invite people to contemplate upon the role of the personal imprint/handwriting of each individual. Taking this as the starting point, I come to the idea of making this nacklace that demostrate the "making" in itself.

The Rings for Planet show in Tokyo is coming.

Currently, the situation of global warming and the environmental distruction seem to get worse.

Is there any way to save this beautifil planet?

Can contemporary jewellery contribute to the environment protection?

Jewellery is something you wear in everyday life, something close to your body and mind.

If a ring spreads love for the Earth all over the world...?

We were planning for X'mas to go to Copenhangen and stay at my long dreamed place Hotel Fox. This design hotel has some really cool graphic/ urban/ illustration style!

But unfortunately we find out that during X'mas days, all the places I want to visit will be closed (design center, museum and shops...) therefore, trip cancled...and Fox, see you next time!

Yu-Chun Chen Taipei/Taiwan

A native of Taiwan, Yu-Chun Chen left home to furthur develop her creative talents at schools in Italy and the Netherlands. East and west merged in her work, along with the contradictions of rounded and angular, introvert and extrovert, restful and restless.

Chen's collage is a medley of her recent work. Pinned onto a large wall installation, her jewellery, initial experiments, sketches and sources of inspiration form the Chinese symbol for 'eternity' ('永'), the first calligraphic character she was taught as a child in Taiwan. Chen believes that the value of jewllery lies in its capacity to last forever: in the sense of eternity it conveys. Many pieces are cherished and handed down from generation to generation; jewellery is not only part of everyday life but also part of history.

Chen applied another Chinese tradition, the art of paper cutting, to metal, combining it with antique earrings from the Dutch province of Zeeland and the decorative design language found in typical dutch wall tiles. Her designs are imbued with a sensitive aesthetic. She works with what she calls 'the being' (form and material), but it is the non-being (the intrinsic quality and intangible significance of jewellery, as well as the sense of enjoyment that comes from wearing it) that she wants to capture in her designs. Offering her inspiration is a proverb attributed to Chinese philosopher Lao Tsu (ca 500B.C.): 'We work with the being, but non-being is what we use.' *

異國 . 一國

走過異國的道路, 才發現對家鄉的眷戀…
大蒙古帝國之王忽必烈, 傾聽著來自威尼斯的旅人馬可波羅, 向他描述記憶的城市, 慾望和記號的城市, 所有帝國統領下似幻似真的城市。一日, 在馬可波羅對大汗整夜描述所有他知道的城市之後, 大汗說:「有一座城市你從來沒提過」「威尼斯」, 旅人回答:「每次我在描述某個城市時, 我其實是在說有關威尼斯的事情。」(節自卡爾維諾”看不見的城市”)
旅人馬可波羅所陳述的字句,對於生於台灣, 行腳踏遍歐洲各地, 旅居義大利與荷蘭的珠寶藝術家陳郁君來說, 特別有感受。體驗了不同的生活方式, 經歷不同的文化衝擊, 在他鄉的鏡子反射之下, 愈發地意識到, 在描述或單純經歷的現在其實都是過去的投射。在創作與尋找個人風格的途中一路走來, 她發現所有異國的故事, 在細心咀嚼之後, 所陳述的其實也就是家鄉的故事。
”異國.一國” 也就是這樣的一個展覽, 在異國的洗禮之後, 沉澱出對家的清澈, 以珠寶做為藝術創作的媒介, 述說旅行的記憶, 異鄉海岸的氣味, 火車窗外倒退的風景, 生活的點滴, 亦或是童年的回憶, 希望呈現給大家觀看珠寶的另一種方式。

Adje Patatje

Dutch Language Lesson 1-
Words that are added with "-je" in the end means something becomes "little". So here we have a perfect example... Ad is my husband's name (probably the shortest name one can ever has) so make it become "Adje" then it will be his nickname. And then there comes the contribution of my Dutch friends that they told me about how people make fun of someone who's name is Ad. They call him "Adje Patatje"! "Patat" means potato, and fried potato is one of the favorite national food of Holland. So when you go to the "snack bar" (typical dutch as well), you can ask "Een portie patat, alstublieft!" Then you will get a portion of french fries. Therefore, I think "Adje Patatje" is a perfect nickname for my dutch habibi since it combines the typical dutch culture and it rhymes so well!!! (In the photo you can see the perfect combination of the two items!!)

The outline of the jewellery is recalling the delicacy of the work itself. This photo is taken from the showcase of my work in the museum. (see the previous article "the past feeds the future")
Usually, the jewels are shown under the spotlight (light from above)in order to see the detail. What I like a lot in this case is that the light comes from beneath and it gives another way of seeing which also surprised me! (Thanks to the choice of Cay - the great artist!)

都市奇景 Miraculous city scene

阿姆斯特丹路邊的人行道上,意外的發現美麗的巨大蘑菇, 真是都市叢林阿! 我懷疑的是, 是這城市提供了有如森林般的清新環境, 還是只是因為實在是太潮溼呢?
I saw these huge beautiful mushrooms on the sidewalk by a tree in Amsterdam... Isn't that amazing?!! Brings me into the forest feeling.... But what I am doubting is...Is it because this city offers something similar to the forest or is the weather just simply too wet?

The Past Feeds The Future

Tomorrow will be the museum night of Amsterdam. 42 museums will be open until 2 am!! It's always a quite cool event. www.n8.nl
My work will be shown together with other people in this interesting 17th century old house/church museum. And the title of the show "The past feeds the future" actually comes from something I had said by chance!! Can you belive it!! Since I am taking inspirations from the past(the old, the tradition, the memory) to create the future works. And I think the nostalgic atmosphere of the museum makes it a delicate place to contemplate about "the past". I will follow up with some photos.
